India and Sri Lanka have shared their concerns at the spread of cross-border terrorism in the region. Sources in the External Affairs Ministry said that during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe in New Delhi, both sides reaffirmed that there was a need to counter terrorism which is affecting progress in entire South Asia.
During the meeting, India and Sri Lanka also reviewed the progress in bilateral efforts to forge closer co-operation in economic, defence
and security matters. They agreed on a more active participation by Indian Industry in developmental priorities in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister also held meetings with the Ministers for Home; Road, Transport, Highways and Ports; and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
They discussed ways to build security and defence collaboration between the two countries, Indian collaboration in the further development of road and port infrastructure, and development of the power and oil and gas infrastructure in Sri Lanka.
