India at UN celebrates birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, has said that Dr BR Ambedkar dedicated his life to laying the foundation of our modern republic. He was speaking at a discussion titled “The timeless appeal of Dr Ambedkar’s vision within the UN and beyond” as part of a commemorative event to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar. Mr Harish said that Dr Ambedkar was a leading figure in India’s freedom struggle and the architect of India’s constitution.

While delivering the keynote address, Minister of State for Social Justice



and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale outlined several flagship initiatives undertaken in India to translate the ideals of Dr. Ambedkar into transformative action. He further underlined the relevance of his vision in the context of SDGs. At the event, guest speaker Dr. Santosh Raut noted that Dr. Ambedkar was a strong advocate for robust constitutional protection of marginalized communities.

Meanwhile, the New York City Mayor’s Office announced that the Mayor has proclaimed 14th April 2025 as Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar Day.
