India, Bangladesh resolve to fight common challenge of terrrorism together

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka last evening and discussed ways to deepen bilateral co-operation. 

In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, Mrs Swaraj also discussed the situation arising out of influx of Rohingyas from the Rakhine State of Myanmar and need for an early and lasting solution. 

Earlier, at the JCC meeting, Mrs Swaraj and her Bangladeshi counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali discussed the common challenge of terrorism and resolved to fight the scourge together. 

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Mrs Swaraj said, both countries are determined to protect their societies from hate, violence



and terror by adopting a zero tolerance policy and a comprehensive approach. Today, Mrs Swaraj will open the new Chancery at the Indian High Commission and inaugurate 15 projects. 

India Bangladesh relationship has undoubtedly reached a new high as both countries have been conducting this relationship in an atmosphere of mutual trust and understanding based on the principle of shared prosperity. 

The signing of the MOU for long-term supply of high speed diesel from the Numaligarh refinery and the deal for the establishment of a Common Facility Centre for the small scale and medium industries in Khulna are further steps in enhancing the economic co-operation and development partnership between the two neighbours.
