India's Ambassador to the US, Navtej Sarna has conveyed New Delhi's concern to Washington about suspected hate crimes recently on Indians in the United States. Mr Sarna said in a series of tweets that he underlined to the US authorities the need to prevent such incidents and protect Indian community. He said the State Department assured they were working to bring the culprits to book and working with all agencies concerned to ensure speedy justice.
Mr. Sarna took up the matter with the State Department after reports came in that a 39-year-old Sikh, Deep Rai was shot at by an unidentified man outside his home who allegedly shouted 'go back to your own country'.Meanwhile, the FBI has joined the
probe into the possibly hate-motivated crime along with the another shooting in Kansas. A 32-year old Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla was killed in Kansas last month by a US Navy veteran Adam Purinton yelling get out of my country.
Indian American Congressman Ami Bera has also condemned the attack on Deep Rai in Kent saying crime motivated by hate are on the rise. Bera said in a statement, this disturbing crime is an outrage that goes against everything they stand for as a nation of immigrants.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed deep pain over suspected hate crimes in the US. Ms Swaraj tweeted that she was sorry to know about the attack on Deep Rai.
