India, Pakistan discuss modalities for facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartar Sahib

The second round of talks between India and Pakistan on the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor was held at Wagah, in Pakistan yesterday. 

An official release said, the meeting discussed the modalities and draft agreement for facilitation of pilgrims on the Kartarpur Sahib corridor. It also reviewed the progress reached in the three rounds of technical meeting held earlier this year. 

The Indian delegation led by S.C.L. Das, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry urged Islamabad to take into consideration the sentiments of the pilgrims to have smooth, easy, unrestricted access throughout the year to be able to visit the holy shrine. 

He said that it was agreed to allow five thousand pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib using the corridor everyday given the expected high demand. It was also



agreed that to allow visa-free travel for the Indian Passport holders and OCI card holders seven days a week. 

Briefing media, Mr. Das said details of the bridge that India is building on its part of the corridor where shared. He said Pakistan agreed to construct on their side on the Ravi river instead of road or cause way to match the construction on Indian side. 

The delegation underscored the importance of ensuring safe and secure environment for the pilgrimage. 

A dossier was handed over to Pakistan delegation highlighting India's concern about  individual or organisations in Pakistan who may try to disrupt the pilgrimage or misuse the opportunity for playing with the sentiments of the pilgrims. The Pakistan side assured that no anti-India activity would be allowed.
