Amman: President Pranab Mukherjee has said that India has been preoccupied with the menace of terrorism emanating from its neighbourhood.
Mr Mukherjee while addressing the public at the University of Jordan in Amman on Sunday said that India has been actively working for strengthening the international regime against terrorism.
He said that India seeks an early conclusion and adoption of Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.
Mr Mukherjee expressed that West Asia is a vital part of India’s extended neighbourhood and millions of Indians live and work in the region. He commended Jordan’s efforts for peace in the region.
He said that like Jordan, India’s support to the Palestinian cause remains steadfast and unwavering while they pursue strong relations with Israel.
The President said his visit to Jordan reflects India’s deep interest in strengthening partnership with Jordan in every field.
He said, India is grateful to Jordan for its assistance in evacuation of Indians during Gulf crisis and Iraq’s civil war.

correspondent reports, President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Jordan featured extension of warmth to the Indian head of State and the delegation.
After being conferred with an honorary doctorate at the University of Jordan, Mr Mukherjee said that India and Jordan are on the right path in their bilateral relations.
Earlier in the day, the Indian President inaugurated a Street which was named after the father of our nation by the Jordan government.
He also met the Jordan Prime Minister Dr Abdulla Ensour with whom he discussed various issues including Terrorism, Syria and Palestine.
Six Memoranda of understanding were signed at the Jordan’s Parliament, Majlis al Ummah.
He also met the speaker and Members of the Jordan Senate. In the evening he addressed a large gathering in which he quoted Mahatma Gandhi while describing India’s support to the Palestinian cause.
On Monday, the President will proceed to Ramalla from Jordan. He will visit the Mausoleum of Late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. Several agreements will also be signed after delegation level talks.
