Pakistani fighter jets flew near the Siachen Glacier on Wednesday, according to a media report here, but Indian Air Force sources said there was no violation of India’s air space..
Pakistan Air Force fighter jets conducted flights near the glacier, Samaa TV reported.
Siachen is in the northern part of Kashmir. Indian and Pakistani forces have faced off against each other in mountains above the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram range since 1984.
Quoting sources, Samaa said all of Pakistan’s operating bases are now fully operational and Mirage jets
are now part of the drills. Sohail Aman, Pakistan’s Chief of Air Staff, visited the Skardu forward base along with other top leadership of the Pakistan Air Force.Aman also met pilots and technical staff of the fighting force and flew a Mirage jet.
India controls the heights and says it is unwilling to bring its forces down until Pakistan officially authenticates the positions they hold.
Pakistan has said it is willing to do so on the condition that it is not a final endorsement of India’s claim over the glacier, a source of melt water for Pakistan’s rivers.
