WhatsApp, the instant messaging and video service provider, has announced that Indians are the biggest users of its video calling feature. WhatsApp rolled out video calling in November 2016 and, since then, it is being used extensively across the world.

Yesterday, the company announced that on an average, globally, there were 340 million minutes of video calls being made every day on WhatsApp. India has a lion's share in that tally, with 50 million minutes of video calls being made daily. Globally, consumers are making a

total of 55 million calls every day.

When its video calling service was launched, WhatsApp had said that the calls were designed to work with the low Internet connectivity problems often faced in India. Rival Mircosoft had launched Skype Lite for India in February too, adapting it for local conditions.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has increased its footprint across the world with 1.2 billion monthly active users. There are over 200 million monthly active users of the app in India alone.
