Mumbai: Indrani Mukherjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, is conscious and expected to give her statement to police officials, a senior doctor said on Tuesday.

“Indrani is fully conscious now and is now even talking to doctors. A panel of doctors who are involved in her treatment will decide when to allow police authorities to record her statement. But that should happen soon now,” Dr. T.P. Lahane, dean of JJ hospital told PTI.

He said her vital parameters were normal and she was responding positively to medications. Meanwhile, a senior State Home Department official has said that an investigation is on to find out if Indrani was poisoned by someone inside the jail premises.

“When the two logical ways of the drug reaching her seem a very distant possibility, what we are focusing now is if somebody tried to poison her. The investigating

officer is recording statements of everybody who comes with contact with Indrani in the jail, including prison officials, other inmates and cooks,”.  “The doctor, at all times ensures that inmates eat medicines in their presence,” he added.

Principal Home Secretary (Prisons) Vijay Satbir Singh said that the report of the Investigation, headed by IG (Prisons) Bipin Kumar Singh, would be submitted to the state Home department by evening of October 9.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday moved an application before a magistrate court, seeking permission to interrogate Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai, accused in the case.

Since all the accused are in judicial custody, the CBI sought to interrogate them in jail. The court will hear the matter on Tuesday as defence lawyers of the accused were not present in court.
