Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kuthar, a Khukri-class corvette, arrived at Colombo port yesterday for a three-day visit. The ship received a ceremonial welcome from the Sri Lanka Navy, accompanied by traditional tunes from the naval band. Upon arrival, Commander Nitin Sharma, Commanding Officer of INS Kuthar, called on Rear Admiral MHCJ Silva, Commander of the Western Naval Area.

During the visit, the ship

formally handed over a refilled fire-fighting system cylinder for Sri Lanka Coast Guard Ship Suraksha. India had earlier provided spare parts and similar assistance in 2021, 2022, and 2024. The visit includes professional interactions, joint exercises, and sporting events, reinforcing India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and maritime security cooperation under the SAGAR vision.
