Finance minister Arun Jaitley rolled out on Friday a nine-pronged approach including fiscal discipline and tax reforms to keep the Indian economy afloat besides delivering the benefits of welfare schemes to the people.
Presenting the Union budget for 2016-17, Jaitley said the government’s thrust on these sectors will help the government achieve its fiscal targets.
The nine sectors identified by Jaitley also include agriculture and farmers’ welfare, rural employment and creation of infrastructure, health care and
health services, education skills and knowledge society, infrastructure development, finance sector reforms and governance and ease of doing business.
He said the “transformative agenda” of the budget will help the economy withstand the uncertainty in the global economy. The “Indian growth is extraordinary high” as the government managed to convert “difficulties and challenges into opportunity,” Jaitley said.
“Amidst global headwinds, the Indian economy has held its own,” Jaitley said.
