Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday kicked off the first Telangana Formation Day celebrations by laying a wreath at the Martyrs' Memorial in Gun Park near the Legislative Assembly and paying tributes to the thousands of people who had laid down their lives for a separate State in the past few decades.
A heavy security screen was in place all around the Gun Park as police did not want to take any chances on Tuesday. At 9 a.m., the Chief Minister came to the Memorial and after paying floral tributes left for the Parade Grounds to participate in the main function.
Union MInister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, who was also present at the Gun Park said, that they were putting together a scheme wherein eligible family members of martyrs would be given skill training that would provide them gainful employment.
"The Central Government will support the Telangana State Government in all its endeavours with financial and logistic support," he promised.
Among the first to arrive at the Gun Park was Telangana Rashtra Samithi General Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member K. Keshav Rao.
For about three hours since morning, there was a steady stream of people representing different organisations paying their tributes to martyrs and getting themselves photographed against the backdrop of the Memorial.
After the Chief Minister and other dignitaries had left the place, a bunch of angry members belonging to the Mala community slipped past the tight security cordon reaching the main gates of the Assembly Complex with placards denouncing the Chief Minister, raised slogans against him for neglecting their community.
