New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met President Pranab Mukherjee amid tussle over powers of the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.
Kejriwal discussed the current status of Delhi and its issues, said ANI. It also quoted government spokesperson denying that the issue of rift with Jung was taken up during the meeting.
Sources said the Delhi chief minister had earlier sought appointment with the President on what action can be taken against the L-G in the CNG fitness scam. The Delhi government’s Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) had reopened the Rs 100 crore CNG fitness scam amid tussle over appointment of the ACB chief. Earlier in the day, Kejriwal met Jung and is believed to have discussed ways to ensure better coordination between the
two.
Kejriwal, who was accompanied by his deputy Manish Sisodia, sent the outgoing law minister Jitender Singh Tomar’s resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee through Jung. He was also informed about his decision to induct the Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Kapil Mishra in the Cabinet as the new Law Minister.
A number of issues featured in meeting including the need for better coordination between the two, as per the sources. Jung came out on the porch to see off the chief minister after the meeting got over.
The AAP government and the L-G were involved in a bitter turf war over appointment and transfer of senior officials and functioning of the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB). The anti-graft agency directly reports to Sisodia, who is also the Vigilance Minister.
