Meta India has apologised for its CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s statement that the incumbent government in India lost elections in 2024 due to its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the massive row over remark, India representative of the social media giant apologised today Calling it an “inadvertent error”.

Responding to Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s post-fact-checking Zuckerberg’s remark on 2024 elections across the globe, Meta India’s vice-president (public policy) Shivnath Thukral on social media X said that Mark’s observation that many incumbent parties were not re-elected in 2024 elections holds true for several countries, but not for India. He said the Meta is apologizing for this error. He also asserted that India remains an incredibly important country for Meta and they look forward to being at the heart of its innovative future. 

On Monday, the Minister on ‘X’ posted



that as the world’s largest democracy, India conducted the 2024 elections with over 640 million voters. The people of India reaffirmed their trust in NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said Mr. Zuckerberg’s claim that most incumbent governments, including India in the 2024 elections, lost post-COVID is factually incorrect, saying this is disappointing and to uphold facts and credibility.

In the post, he also highlighted that from free food for 800 million, 2.2 billion free vaccines, and aid to nations worldwide during COVID, to leading India as the fastest-growing major economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisive 3rd-term victory is a testament to good governance and public trust.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who heads the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Communications and IT had said that the panel will summon the Meta over incorrect information.
