Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brussels as part of his three-nation visit to Belgium, United States and Saudi Arabia. In the first leg of his visit, Mr Modi will start his program in the Belgian capital Brussels by laying wreath at Malbeek metro station today.
He will meet members of European Parliament and Belgian Parliament. Mr.Modi will also hold meeting with Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel. He will also attend India-EU summit and will address Indian diaspora.
Among other things, Prime Minister will also be activating Asia's largest 'general purpose' optical telescope installed in 'Devsthal', 60 km from Nainital, through 'Remote Technical Activation' while on a visit to
Belgium.
European Union officials said, Mr. Modi's decision to attend the EU-India Summit amid heightened security concerns in the region, is a welcome sign that both sides are keen to re-establish a relationship that has been languishing in recent years.
European officials hope the closed-door summit will yield a joint statement and an agenda that will serve as a roadmap for EU-India cooperation in what is referred to as Action 2020. This includes concrete priority actions for the strategic partnership between the two sides over the next five years.
Declarations on a water partnership and an energy and climate partnership are also expected to be announced.
