New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra
Modi left for London this morning on a three-day visit to United Kingdom.
Before leaving, Mr Modi said in a tweet that he is hopeful that the visit will
strengthen economic ties between the two countries, and will bring more
investment to India.
After his arrival in the British capital, Mr Modi is scheduled to hold talks with his British counterpart David Cameron and discuss a host of issues including defence, security, energy and trade.
Mr Modi will also address the British
Parliament and deliver a speech at the Guildhall in the financial hub of
London. He will pay homage at the statue of Mahatama Gandhi, besides paying a
visit to where Dr BR Ambedakar had stayed during his studies in
London.
India's second largest diaspora is in the UK, and Mr Modi's visit is a big occasion for them. AIR correspondent Rajesh Bali, covering the PM's visit, reports that Wembley Stadium where Mr Modi is to address the Indian Diaspora has been decked up and is presenting a look of Mini-India. Over 60,000 people of Indian origin and others have registered themselves to be a part of the Prime Minister's reception. Young Indian performers are also excited.
During the visit, Mr Modi will also meet Queen Elizabeth-II at Buckingham Palace over lunch, and interact with CEOs at a round-table meeting.
On Saturday, Mr Modi will leave for a 2-day tour to Antalya in Turkey to attend the G-20 Summit.
