Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Pathankot in Punjab today for first-hand assessment of the situation at the Air Base, which was attacked by six terrorists on the 2nd of this month. Friday, security forces had declared that the Air Force station has been fully sanitised after a massive combing operation spanning over three days. A senior Indian Air Force official said, the operation to ensure that no terrorist is hiding was carried out jointly by Army, National Security Guard and IAF's Guard Commandos.
Meanwhile, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi Friday. Talking to reporters after
the meeting, Mr Badal said, he has requested the Home Minister to increase the presence of Border Security Force in the state. On the Pathankot attack, he said, there was no failure on part of the local police.
In another development, Punjab Police has arrested a BSF jawan for helping arms and drug smugglers to infiltrate into Punjab from Pakistan side of border. Belonging to 52nd Battalion of BSF, Anil Kumar was working for a Lahore based smuggler Imtiaz, who has introduced him to a group of Tarn Taran based smugglers. The BSF jawan has admitted that he had helped to smuggle huge consignments of heroin to India and had received plenty of money in lieu.
