Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today take part in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) being held in London. The theme of the summit is -Towards a Common Future.
The biennial event has brought together delegates from 53 commonwealth nations. The summit's focus is on addressing common challenges across the Commonwealth for a more prosperous, secure and sustainable future.
Commonwealth is a multilateral organization known for its focus on the development issues that confront the Small States and Small Island Developing States. India considers that the Commonwealth comprises of a very diverse set of 53 countries ranging from Small Island developing states to some of the most advanced industrialized countries of the world.
All these countries have come together due to their shared commitment to democracy, peace and justice and the promotions of citizen's rights. Mr Modi will meet several leaders on the sidelines on the event today.
Ahead of the CHOGM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral discussions with UK Prime Minister Theresa May and British Queen in London
yesterday evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear India’s priorities during his day-long whirlwind programmes and bilateral discussions with the UK yesterday, ahead of the crucial CHOGM meeting beginning this morning.
During his bilateral discussions with his UK counterpart Theresa May, he emphasised the need for countering the rising challenge of terrorism that all countries are facing. He also focussed on enhancing cooperation on Technology and innovation besides strengthening regional cooperation on trade.
During his meetings with Prince Charles and other programmes with Theresa May, Mr Modi highlighted the need for coordination between countries on Science and Innovation for improving lives of people. In this direction, India and UK made a forward step too by announcing the UK India Tech Alliance.
At a unique programme, Bharat Ki Baat Sab ke saat, Mr Modi highlighted India’s priorities on various national as well as International issues when a large number of enthused Indian community interacted with him for about two and half hours.
