Mumbai: Mumbai is celebrating Diwali,
the festival of lights, with festive farvour and enthusiasm. The entire city
has lit up to lamps and lights. Today is Naraka Chaturdasi, the second day of
Diwali.
It is believed that on this auspicious day lord Krishna killed the demon called Narakasur. This day signifies the victory of good over evil.
The early morning bath Abhyanga Snan,
is of significance as it symbolises the end of the evil powers. Abhyang snan is
taken before
the sunrise.
Later a puja is performed with oil, flowers, and sandalwood. Coconuts are also offered to God Hanuman. It's customary to exchange xtravagantly decorated boxes of snacks, sweets, dried fruit, nuts or silver serving dishes with family and friends.
The festival is incomplete without Diwali Pahat, a musical concert.
