Nation is celebrating 68th Republic Day today Crown Prince
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi will be the Chief Guest during
the Republic Day parade in the national capital. The parade will begin at 9.50
this morning from Vijay Chowk and proceed to Red Fort Grounds. President Pranab
Mukherjee will take the salute of the parade. Fifteen marching contingents of
Armed forces, Para Military forces and NCC will participate in the ceremony.
A contingent of UAE soldiers will also march down the Rajpath during the
parade. Flypast by the RUDRA armed helicopter, and motorcycle display by the
Shwetashwa of the Corps of Military Police are the other attractions. The
National Security Guard, NSG will make its debut in the Republic Day parade
this year.
Tableaux from seventeen states and six ministries will showcase varied themes
starting from country’s rich cultural heritage, socio-economic development to
nation’s progress including commemoration of the 160th birth anniversary of
Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
campaign, GST, Khadi
India, Housing For All, Green India, Clean India and Skill Development will be
seen during the parade. Lakshadweep tableaux will participate in the parade
after 26 years and Delhi tableaux after three years. Security has been beefed
up in and around Rajpath.
Delhi Police has tightened the security in different parts of the city in view
of today's ceremony. Various security layers have been put in place and Delhi
Police personnel along with paramilitary and NSG commandos have been deployed.
The national capital has been brought under ground-to-air security cover with
thousands of armed personnel keeping a tight vigil.
Nearly 50,000 security personnel drawn from Delhi Police and central security
forces guarding every nook and corner in the entire Central and New Delhi
region. CCTV cameras have been installed and eight control rooms have been set
up to monitor the feed from the cameras. Besides, traffic has been closed from
Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath till the parade is over.
