The first death anniversary of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is being observed today. Dr. Kalam died on July 27 last year at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong where he had gone to deliver a lecture. The funeral of Dr. Kalam was held at his hometown in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. A bronze statue of Dr. Kalam will be unveiled in Rameswaram today.

IIM-Shillong, where the former President breathed his last during a lecture, will organise a lecture series today on making world a better place. The first lecture will be delivered at the commemoration event by Dr. Manas K Mandal, Director General of Life Sciences at the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
