The nation pays
homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 69th death anniversary
today. He was assassinated on this day in 1948. Prime Minister Narendra Modi
paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion. President Pranab Mukherjee,
Vice-President Hamid Anasri and other eminent leaders will pay tributes to Bapu
at his Samadhi, Rajghat in New Delhi. An inter-religious prayer will be
organised there on the occasion.
The nation will also
observe two minute silence at 11 AM today as a mark of respect towards the
brave martyrs. Later, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate
improvement works at Gandhiji Samadhi at Rajghat. With a view to enhance the engaging
experience
of the visitors, the Rajghat Samadhi Samiti has undertaken several
initiatives during the last two years which will be inaugurated today.
An official release said, for the first time, a 157 word brief profile of Mahatma and a 131 word description of Gandhi Samadhi have been put on display at all the three gates of Rajghat.Besides, 30 Amrit Vachans, an eternally relevant thoughts of Gandhiji, have been engraved on marble and displayed on granite stone pedestals for inspiring the visitors to Rajghat. Besides inaugurating these new initiatives, Mr Naidu will also release a special edition of Rajghat Samadhi Patrika, commemorating the 100th year of Champaran Satyagraha launched by Gandhiji.
