Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated that his government worked for strengthening of the states. Mr Modi said, earlier 65 percent money was kept with the Centre, while the states were given only 35 percent. He said, considering the problems of the states, they reversed the trend and gave 65 percent share to the states. Mr Modi was addressing a mega rally in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh yesterday to mark the second anniversary of the NDA government.
The Prime Minister said, his government is for the poor of the country and during his two year rule, he has provided a transparent and corruption free government. He said, 2 years ago on this day, he took oath as the Prime Minister and today he has come to give a report card of his government's performance.
In his address, Mr Modi centered his speech around the problems of farmers and the poor. He counted the achievements of several schemes of the Centre including Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, PM Irrigation Scheme, Beti Bachao-Beti Padao Yojna, Mudra loan scheme, PM Jan Dhan Yojna, Sanitation Campaign and Soil Health Card Scheme for farmers.
The Prime Minister said, his programmes and policies are for every Indian irrespective of caste and religion. He said, next year we will be completing 70 years of Independence and the government will devise such schemes which will be helpful in meeting the basic



requirements of the people.
He said, the NDA government will initiate such policies for the poor farmers which would double their income by the year 2022. Expressing his unhappiness over the non-payment of full dues to Sugarcane growers, Mr Modi said, if his party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh, their dues will be cleared. He said, the Centre gave money to the state government for paying the dues of cane growers, but their dues are still outstanding. He also called for judicious use of water, saying adequate amount of it will help farmers against all odds.
Citing shortage of doctors in the country, Mr Modi announced raising the age of retirement of government doctors to 65 years and said the Union Cabinet will give its nod to the decision this week. He also appealed to doctors to serve poor pregnant women for free on the ninth day of every month, saying it will contribute to his government's efforts to deal with illness among the poor.
The Prime Minister said, over 1 crore families have willingly quit the LPG subsidy in favour of the poor. He said, the Government will provide LPG connections to five crore poor families in the next 3 years.
In his address on the occasion, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, the Modi government has held India high in the eyes of the world. He said, the whole world has recognised the fast growing Indian economy.
