Prime Minister
Narendra Modi has said his government has been pro-actively pursuing the
'Act-East Policy' and working to improve infrastructure in the North East
region. Addressing a public meeting in Shillong yesterday after flagging off
three new trains, he said his government intends to connect all north eastern
states by rail network and upgrade infrastructure in road, telecom, power and
waterways to bring them on par with the developed states.
The Prime
Minister
said 30,000 crore rupees have been earmarked in the current budget for the North
east region. The Prime Minister also highlignted the tourism potential of the
region, and stressed need for developing tourist circuits through improved road
connectivity, hotels and cleanliness. He said a new scheme 'Swadesh Darshan',
has been launched aimed at developing tourist circuits in the country and one
such circuit is proposed for the North East. The Prime Minister also
dedicated to the nation the Doppler Weather Radar at Cherrapunji.
