A 21-year-old woman from Kerala received the ‘triple talaq’ message from her husband on WhatsApp just after four weeks of their marriage. Her husband had left for Dubai after 10 days of their marriage.
J Prameela Devi , member of the women’s commission, revealed a shocking statement made by the woman's estranged husband: "He said she was like an apple, and he had already tasted it. So he did not want her anymore, '' reports Times of India.
Following the WhatsApp message, the woman has registered a complaint with the women’s commission’s
adalat in Pala, Kottayam. The commission questioned the validity of a ’WhatsApp talaq’ and demanded the man’s parents to be present during the next hearing.
Meanwhile, talaq over WhatsApp has divided the Islamic scholars in the state.
A member of the Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyyathul Ulama claimed that the divorce is valid, but it will be granted only after discussions are held between them.
Another member of the same organization questioned the validity of talaq and stated that it can't be considered as a legal document for divorce.
