Parties must find credible solution together, says Manmohan Singh

New Delhi Thursday, 23 April 2015  PTI :Terming farmers committing suicide as a "great tragedy", former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said it is not a one party issue and asked all parties in Parliament and outside to pool their wisdom to find a credible solution.His remarks came a day after a farmer from Rajasthan committed suicide during a rally organised by AAP in New Delhi."This is a great tragedy that farmers are committing suicide. It is not a one party issue. All parties in Parliament and outside must pool in their wisdom, knowledge and experience to find a credible solution to this issue," he said speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex. Opposition on Thursday closed ranks in Rajya Sabha seeking a CBI probe into the suicide of a farmer here yesterday and demanded a reply from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House.Both the central government and the government of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi are responsible for it," Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said, raising the issue during Zero Hour.He told Chairman Hamid Ansari that since leaders of a number



of Opposition parties have given a notice to suspend Question Hour and take up a discussion on the issue, their demand should be accepted.Gajendra Singh, a distressed farmer from Dausa in Rajasthan, committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from a tree in full public view in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at an Aam Aadmi Party rally.PM Modi says we should work together to find solution to farmer suicides Addressing Lok Sabha over farmer  Gajendra Singh's suicide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Because of yesterday's incident, the grief in country has been expressed here, I also share this grief. He further added, "We should work together to find solution to the farmer suicide. It (farmers' plight) is an old, deep-rooted problem. Government will accept all suggestions. Nothing is more valuable than human life. Stating that there is nothing more important than the life of a farmer, Modi added, "Please give me suggestions, I will take it into account. Will not betray interests of farmers. We need to work together and therefore I welcome any suggestion."
