In Jammu and Kashmir, both the PDP and BJP are expected to meet Governor NN Vohra today and jointly stake the claim to form government in the state, headed by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
The readiness of alliance partners to resume of their coalition government will end more than two months’ political uncertainty in the state after the death of the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed on 7th of January this year.
The Governor had summoned Presidents of both the parties separately yesterday
for consultations. However, the alliance partners deferred their meetings at the last minute and sought some more time. They were involved in last round of talks till late night at Jammu.
PDP has presently 27 members in the 87-member J&K Assembly, BJP has 25. PDP claims support of one Independent MLA from Kargil in Ladakh region while BJP has support of three more MLAs including two of Sajjad Lone’s Peoples Conference. Dr Nirmal Singh will be Deputy Chief Minister in the new dispensation.
