Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Marseille in southern France early today.

After a series of high-level engagements in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Marseille along with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The Indian community in Marseille gave the Prime Minister a warm and enthusiastic welcome upon his arrival. Continuing their strong partnership, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron are participating in key events today.

The two leaders will jointly inaugurate India’s first new Consulate in Marseille, a move that will not only enhance consular services for the Indian community in southern France but also play a crucial role in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

They will also visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) ,a multinational initiative, including India and France, aimed at harnessing

nuclear energy for global benefit. India formally joined the project in 2005, and this visit underscores its commitment to clean energy.

Both leaders will pay homage to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery. Following his engagements in France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will depart later today for a two-day visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

Indian Ambassador to France, Sanjeev Kumar Singla highlighted that the inauguration of India’s new Consulate General in Marseille is a significant milestone within the framework of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

He noted that this new consulate will enhance consular services for the sizable Indian diaspora in Marseille and strengthen India’s strategic presence in the region.
