Raja ‘misled’ Manmohan on 2G policy matters: CBI to court

New Delhi, April 15, 2015 ( Agencies) : In a stunning revelation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its final argument argued before a Special Court that the former Prime Minister  Manmohan Singh was ‘misled’ by ex-Telecom Minister A Raja on policy matter pertaining to allocation of 2G spectrum.Special Public Prosecutor Anand Grover, commencing final argument in the case, told the special court that Raja had advanced the cut-off date to favour accused firms in allocation of 2G licence. Raja had granted spectrum to “ineligible” companies like Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd (STPL) and Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) Ltd, he added.“He (Raja), in fact, misled him (Manmohan Singh) on FCFS and cut-off date.” Grover said,



referring to the letters written by Raja on November 2, 2007 to the erstwhile PM Manmohan Singh, adding,“Curious things happened in DoT (Department of Telecommunication) which showed that this (change in FCFS policy) was deliberately done to favour the accused.” Anand Grover said the first-come-first-serve (FCFS) policy was changed by Raja to favour some of the accused and the former telecom minister even rejected the proposal of the then Law Minister who had proposed that some of the key policy issues be referred to the Empowered Group of Ministers. The Central Bureau of Investigation had , in its charge-sheet, alleged that there was a loss of around 31,000 crore rupees to the exchequer in the allocation of 122 licences for 2G spectrum.
