The Rajya Sabha has adopted Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address negating all, but one amendment. Replying to the Motion yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday commended the Members of Parliament for accepting the President’s counsel and allowing smooth functioning of both Houses.
He urged Rajya Sabha to pass the pending bills including Goods and Services Tax, saying the Upper House with its wisdom should guide the country. Amidst thumping of desks by the Treasury benches, Mr.Modi said, these legislations would take development to a quantum jump from incremental improvement.
The Prime Minister also said his
government has brought about good governance with transparency, accountability and decentralisation as its main features. He claimed that there is a quantum jump in job creation, 48 per cent increase in foreign direct investment, six-fold increase in electronic manufacturing and the highest production of automobiles during the past one-and-a-half years.
Lamenting that 300 infra projects worth 15 lakh crore rupees were stalled for last 10-15 years, Mr Modi said, all these projects are now being monitored for speedy implementation. He assured the House that the policy initiatives by his government would see the income of farmers rising to double by 2022.
