Supreme Court today ruled the governor's action to dismiss Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh was illegal. The Nabam Tuki-led Congress government was dismissed by Governor JP Rajkhowa after 21 MLAs rebelled against the chief minister.
Supreme Court observed that Governor's decision advancing Arunachal Pradesh Assembly session by a month is violative of the Constitution and liable to be
quashed.
Apex court directed status quo ante in Arunachal Pradesh as it prevailed on December 15, 2015.
It also said that all steps and decision taken by the Legislative Assembly pursuant to Governor's Dec 9, 2015 order are unsustainable and liable to be set aside. All the five judges were unanimous in setting aside the orders of Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa.
