External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who is leading the Indian delegation at the Heart of Asia conference in Islamabad will hold talks with her Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz today. She is also scheduled to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.
Mrs Swaraj reached Islamabad yesterday on a first-ever visit by a minister in the Narendra Modi Government. After arriving in Islamabad, Mrs Swaraj said, the relationship between India and Pakistan should be better and that she will hold talks to find ways to improve bilateral ties. She said ties between the two countries should be good and move
forward.
Invited by Pakistan to attend the multilateral meet on Afghanistan, Mrs Swaraj will attend the conference today before holding talks with Mr Aziz who said the focus would be on the resumption of composite dialogue process.
Swaraj's visit comes after talks between the National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan in Bangkok on Sunday, where they discussed terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir and a range of key bilateral issues apart from agreeing to carry forward the "constructive" engagement. Aziz had said yesterday that the deadlock in Indo-Pak ties had eased to some extent.
