Terror being incubated in neighbourhood: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the relationship between India and United States has overcome the hesitation of history. He also said now comfort, candour and convergence define our conversations. Addressing the joint session of the US Congress, Mr Modi said in every sector of India’s forward March, US is an indispensable partner. 

Saying that terrorism was a global challenge and that it was incubated in India's neighbourhood, the Prime Minister said from the western borders of India to Africa, it goes by different names - Lashkar-e-Taiba or Al Qaeda or ISIS and they all speak the same language of terrorism.

In the last of his three-day visit to Washington, Mr Modi said his dream is to economically empower billion of Indian citizens through many social and economic transformations and New Delhi sees Washington as an indispensable partner in this direction. 

He added a stronger and prosperous India is in America's strategic interest. The Prime Minister said the ties of commerce and investment between the two nations are flourishing and India trades more with the US than with



any other nation.

Mr Modi said India's strong economy and growth rate of 7.6 percent is creating new opportunities for mutual prosperities. He said a strong India-US partnership can anchor peace, prosperity, and stability from Asia to Africa and from Indian Ocean to the Pacific. Mr Modi became the first foreign leader to be given this honour in 2016 to speak at the joint session of the US Congress. 

Mr Narendra Modi is the sixth Indian Prime minister to address the joint sitting of the US Congress . It was not only a rare honour but also indicates the importance the US accords India. 

In 2000, if Atal Bihari Vajpayee captured everyone’s heart with his address at a joint session of the US Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mesmerized everyone with his speech and struck a personal rapport with everyone present in the room with his brilliant oratory. 

His speech captured the mood at Capitol Hill and Indo-US ties perfectly. Later, Mr Modi met US Congress members after concluding his speech and he has arrived in Mexico on the last leg of his tour.
