Thanks to WhatsApp, SCPCR saves minor girl from marriage
Hyderabad June 01,2015(Agency) : A 10th Standard girl was saved from being forcefully married after a WhatsApp complaint helped the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Police officials stop the marriage. Scheduled on Sunday morning, the marriage being forced upon the girl by her family members was to be held at ASR Gardens in Saroornagar.The girl, who recently completed her 10th Standard wanted to pursue higher studies but with



her father’s threat to commit suicide, she reached out to the police via a WhatsApp message. Assistant commissioner of police, LB Nagar division, P. Venugopal Rao said that he had received a message on WhatsApp around 12 midnight that was an image of a handwritten letter with the details of a girl.With the ACP alerting the Saroornagar police, Inspector Krishna Prasad said that the on-duty SI was alerted at 1 AM on Saturday who went to function hall and counseled the families to withdraw the marriage proposal.
