Hyderabad: A gang of thieves struck at an NRI’s house at Asmangadh under Malakpet police station limits in the early hours of Monday and escaped with 1.5 kg gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash. Shaheen Sultana, 31, who lives in an independent house at Asmangadh, went out with family on Sunday evening to attend a gathering and returned home at around midnight. The family kept the balcony door next to the bedroom open and fell asleep.
“The offenders scaled the boundary wall and crept on to the terrace and sneaked into the bedroom through the balcony door and committed the theft. They opened the locks of the cupboards with the help of keys with ease and made off
with around 1.5 kg of gold, 5,000 US dollars and Rs 2 lakh cash,” detective sub-inspector S Naresh said adding that they might have conducted a recce before committing the offence.
A few members of the family were sleeping in the adjacent rooms when the burglary took place. The theft came to light when one of the members found the locks open and valuables missing. They immediately alerted the police. On receipt of information, police swung into action and collected evidence from the spot. Sniffer dog squad and Clues team pressed into service to lift fingerprints. A case has been registered under Section 457/380 of the IPC and further investigation is underway.
