Today is International Day of the Girl Child

Today is International Day of the Girl Child. On December 2011 the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution to declare 11th October as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. 

On the occasion, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi will address a panel



discussion on the Role of Sports in the Empowerment of Girls in New Delhi today. Sachin Tendulkar, Mithali Raj, Raspreet Sidhu, Ragini Sharma, Mana Mandlekar will also take part in the panel discussion.

In view of the Day, Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week from 09th to 14th of this month.
