HYDERABAD, January 30, 2015(Agency)University of Hyderabad has been selected for the ‘Visitor’s Award for the Best University’, which will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 4.The President of India, who is the “Visitor” of all Central universities in the country, presents the ‘Visitor’s Awards’ in categories such as ‘Best University’, ‘Innovation’ and ‘Research’.The function will coincide with the third conference of Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities, scheduled to be held from February 4 to 5, said a message posted on the President’s Facebook page.The ‘Visitor’s Award for Innovation’ will be given to Vijay K. Chaudhary and Amita Gupta of University of Delhi who invented ‘TB Confirm’, a rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis.The ‘Visitor’s



Award for Research’ will be presented to Cosmology and Astrophysics Research Group of Jamia Milia Islamia’s Centre for Theoretical Physics, for path-breaking research in the field of astrophysics and cosmology.The ‘Best University’ will receive a citation and trophy, while the winners of ‘Innovation’ and ‘Research’ will receive a citation and cash award of Rs.1 lakh.The President had announced the institution of these awards at the Vice Chancellors’ Conference last year with the aim of promoting healthy competition amongst Central universities and motivating them to adopt best practices from across the world.For selecting the winners, online applications were invited from all Central Universities for each category.The Visitor’s Award is bestowed by the President of India, who is the “Visitor” of all Central universities in the country
