Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, began their much-awaited week-long visit to India by paying tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
They also played cricket with underprivileged children at the Oval Maidan and met the who’s who of entertainment, business and sports at a Bollywood-themed charity dinner.
William and Kate are traveling without their two children — 2-and-a-half-year-old Prince George and 11-month-old Princess Charlotte.
On their arrival at the The Taj Mahal Palace, the couple paid tributes to the victims of the 26/11 attacks. “The Duke & Duchess arrive @TajMahalMumbai and lay a wreath to remember the terror attacks of 2008 #RoyalVisitIndia…TRH then
chatted to @TajMahalMumbai staff who helped protect guests during the attacks #RoyalVisitIndia,” the Kensington Palace tweeted.
After this, the couple joined a cricket match organised by the NGOs Magic Bus, Doorstep and India’s Childline where both Prince William and Kate took to the crease and batted for some time, as the excited crowds cheered and so as the kids playing with them.
They were joined by former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar.
After this they headed for the Banganga tank in the Walkeshwar area of Malabar Hill, where they were accorded a ceremonial welcome. In the evening, they attended a charity dinner in which India’s top film, sport and business personalities graced the occasion.
