Hyderabad: The fluoride-hit areas of Nalgonda and some other habitations that are close to water sources will get drinking water through taps within one-and-half years as work on the Rs. 36,000 crore water grid programme will commence soon, said Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao in the Legislative Council here on Wednesday.
Replying to a short discussion on the ‘Water Grid’ programme of
government, Mr. Rama Rao said the groundwork has been completed, achieving financial closure for Rs. 20,000 crore loan which included Rs.15,000 crore from HUDCO.
Under the water grid project designed by Rural Water Supply department engineers and cleared by the third party WAPCOS, a public sector consultant, 1.25 lakh km of pipeline would be laid to provide drinking water through domestic taps, he said.
