World Health Day is being observed today. The objective of the day is to disseminate knowledge and awareness about human health. The day focuses on increasing life expectancy by adding good health to the lives of people and promoting healthier living habits across the globe. This year the theme of the Day is Beat Diabetes.
According to World Health Organization, the number of adults over 35 years of age living with diabetes has nearly quadrupled to 422 million. It said, the
world is facing an unrelenting march of the disease which now affects nearly one in every eleven people. The report said, high blood sugar levels are a major killer and linked to 3.7 million deaths around the world each year.
Referring to World Health Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his last month's Mann ki Baat programme on All India Radio had called for eradicating diabetes from the country. He had asked people to do Yoga and physical exercise to fight diabetes.
