World Population Day is being observed today. The objective of the day is to increase the awareness of the people towards the worldwide population issues. The theme of this year is Family Planning- Empowering People, Developing Nations.
Family planning allows people to attain their desired number of children and determine the spacing of pregnancies. The world population has grown tremendously over the
past years.
China has the highest population in the world and India stood at second. Health and Family Welfare Ministry has organised various programmes today.
The Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989 recommended July 11 as World Population Day to draw attention to the urgency and importance of population issues.
