Today is World Tourism Day. It is being celebrated since 1980 on 27th September, the day in which the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization, UNWTO entered into force.
The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day is ‘sustainable tourism - a tool for development’. The day will be dedicated to exploring the contribution of tourism to the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai in his message said, this
World Tourism Day, whenever people travel, wherever they travel, they should remember to respect nature, respect culture and respect the host. He said, last year alone, 1.2 billion travellers crossed international borders in one single year and by 2030, it will become 1.8 billion.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, President Ram Nath Kovind will give away the National Tourism Awards and will Launch Incredible India 2.0 Campaign in New Delhi.
